ATI’s titanium shipments fall short

LOS ANGELES — The failure of the industrial titanium market to stage a comeback so far this year means Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) probably won’t meet its earlier forecast of increased shipments in 2012.

The Pittsburgh-based specialty metals producer disclosed in the past week that titanium shipments by its flat-rolled products segment—which includes its Moon Township, Pa.-based Uniti LLC conversion venture with VSMPO-Avisma Corp. of Russia that specializes in commercially pure (CP) titanium for industrial, nonaerospace markets—fell to 2.8 million pounds in the second quarter, down 6 percent from the first three months of the year and 43 percent below the second quarter of last year.....
