CHICAGO — Manufacturers of primary and fabricated metals products saw the value of new orders and inventories drop in June compared with May, although shipment values were split.

The value of primary metal producers’ shipments, not seasonally adjusted, fell 1.6 percent to $29.8 billion in June from $30.3 billion a month earlier, while fabricated metal producers’ shipments inched up slightly to $28.76 billion from $28.73 billion in the same....
