NEW YORK — Aluminum deox producers have reported better-than-expected prices for August business, with demand from steelmakers more robust than previously anticipated and sellers insisting tags must cover their raw material costs.

Producers reported spot transactions predominantly within a range of 95 to 97 cents per pound this week, with one producer source claiming a "very small order" at 98 cents per pound.

However, a second producer source said that he lost business from a regular, large customer that claimed it was able to find a seller at 93 cents per pound. "We pulled back and held the line at 96 to 97 cents per pound," he said. "If I had met them at 92 cents per pound, then someone would have been at 91.5 (cents per pound), and so on."....
