Japanese automakers drive US sales higher

CHICAGO — U.S. sales by the top seven automakers totaled 991,570 vehicles in July, up 9.1 percent from the same month last year but down 10.7 percent from 1.11 million in June.

American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. and Nissan North America Inc. posted increases of 45.3 percent, 26.1 percent and 16.2 percent, respectively, from a year ago as they rebounded from supply chain disruptions caused by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.....
