Scrap strength spreads to Ohio, Alabama

PITTSBURGH — Ferrous scrap prices in the Ohio Valley appear poised for a strong rebound after early trades in the region indicated significant increases.

Markets in the Ohio Valley and Birmingham, Ala., remained unsettled late Thursday as some mill buyers had yet to enter for August requirements. However, in some early trades, prices spiked by a minimum of $50 a gross ton, bringing an apparent end to a six-month downward spiral in the region.

"You can get all the scrap you want at these numbers," said an Ohio mill buyer. ....
