LOS ANGELES — Most buyers of bar and structural products have just one question on their minds after this week’s $83-per-gross-ton increase in a benchmark scrap price: How much of a hike will producers seek?

The vast majority of buyers expect this week’s boost in AMM’s consumer buying price for shredded automotive scrap in the Chicago market—to $410 per ton from $327 for July—to set the stage for higher published prices after a recent series of large cuts.....
