NEW YORK — The Congressional Steel Caucus is urging the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) not to classify steel scrap as a conflict mineral.

If scrap metal were to be classified as a conflict mineral, it would put U.S. steelmakers at risk of being globally uncompetitive, caucus chairman Rep. Tim Murphy (R., Pa.) and vice chairman Rep. Peter J. Visclosky (D., Ind.) said in a letter to SEC chairwoman Mary L. Schapiro. ....
