NEW YORK — Players in the steel plate market said they expect price hikes from more domestic mills following an increase from Nucor Corp. this past week.

Nucor Corp. said this week it will boost transaction prices on all carbon, alloy and heat-treated plate by a minimum of $50 per ton, effective immediately. The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker’s plate group said it may review and requote any offers not yet confirmed, according to a letter sent to customers.

By midday Thursday, no other mills had officially followed Nucor’s price increase, though there was market speculation that others would follow by the end of the day Friday or early next week.....
