Domestic mills boost wire rod prices

CHICAGO — A number of major steel mills have announced plans to boost wire rod prices effective with shipments Sept. 1.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corp. appeared to have led the move, announcing an $80-per-ton ($4-per-cwt) net transaction price increase, according to a letters sent to customers Thursday.
Tampa, Fla.-based Gerdau Long Steel North America followed Friday with its own $80-per-ton increase on all grades and qualities from its mills in Beaumont, Texas, and Jacksonville, Fla., according to a letter to customers.
Peoria, Ill.-based Keystone Steel & Wire Co. also on Friday announced plans to raise wire rod prices, but it set its increase at a more modest $70 per ton ($3.50 per cwt).....
