BlueScope joint venture mulls DRI plant

LOS ANGELES — A possible direct-reduced iron (DRI) project at North Star BlueScope Steel LLC has been moved to the front burner by the U.S.-Australian joint venture in Delta, Ohio.
A feasibility study is under way for a 1-million-tonne-per-year DRI plant that would "replace some of the current higher-priced scrap and pig iron supply" for the flat-rolled facility, reducing its overall cost structure, according to a presentation by Paul O’Malley, managing director and chief executive officer of Australian parent BlueScope Steel Ltd.....
