Silicomanganese prices firm as supply tightens

NEW YORK — Silicomanganese prices have firmed for the first time since early March as supply in the domestic market is said to be tightening.

"We’ve seen some push-up on silicomanganese," one trader said. "We sold some material at higher levels this (past) week."

"The guys (consumers) are worried about supply," a second trader said of the reason for the increase, which comes even as prices for most other alloys have been declining steadily over the summer.....
