NEW YORK Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has set a goal of achieving North American energy independence by 2020 in his campaigns energy plan, released late last week.
Reaching the goal would require focusing on a number of key issues, according to the plan, which includes allowing states to control onshore and offshore energy development, pursuing a North America-wide energy partnership and easing regulations.
Supporters in the steel industry say that energy costs make up some 20 percent of the cost of making steel, so affordable energy is crucial to remaining competitive.....
