Boeing starts up Dreamliner ‘surge’ line

LOS ANGELES — Boeing Co. has started up a third assembly line for its titanium-intensive 787 Dreamliner as it looks to build a new version of the plane while also increasing production to 10 planes per month.

The so-called "surge line" in Everett, Wash., joins an existing line at the same location operated by the company’s Seattle-based Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) subsidiary. Another assembly line in North Charleston, S.C., rolled out its first 787 earlier this year. ....
