South Carolina officials mull rules to combat scrap theft

PITTSBURGH — Officials in Pickens County, S.C., are working on a measure to combat scrap metal theft, but one local recycler said it isn’t necessary and won’t work.

The county council is considering a scrap metal ordinance that would require increased record-keeping of transactions, regulate certain materials and mandate that scrapyards connect to an electronic database.
