Good times may be a long way off: consultant

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The global economy of tomorrow might look better than today’s, but that tomorrow could be a long way off, according to one consultant.

It is possible that the future could see major economies across the world, including those of the United States and Europe, running in top gear, Erik R. Peterson, director of A.T. Kearney’s global business policy council, said during a presentation at the Metals Service Center Institute’s economic forecast conference in Schaumburg, Ill.

But Peterson suggested that many nations more likely were headed for political deadlock and economic stagnation in the near term, or the "Japanization of the world," as he dubbed the potential trend.....
