NEW YORK — Japanese stainless steelmakers are facing tough market conditions due to rapidly rising production in other Asian nations, a top industry executive told AMM.
"It’s still feasible but very tough in stainless steel because of a lot of newcomers from China, Taiwan and (South) Korea have increased capacity," according to Toshiyuki Kawashima, president and chief executive officer of Rolling Meadows, Ill.-based Nisshin Steel USA LLC, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Nisshin Steel Co. Ltd.....
