NEW YORK Ormet Corp. has notified state officials that it may close its alumina refinery in Burnside, La., due to reduced output levels at its Hannibal, Ohio, smelter, which is fed by the Burnside site.
Ormet issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices to 250 Burnside employees Tuesday, the company said.
"The plan would be to idle Burnside sometime in November," chief executive officer Mike Tanchuk told AMM in an interview following the announcement. ....
