Turkish scrap buying keeps US on toes: exec

WASHINGTON — The volatility in ferrous scrap pricing likely will continue, given the uncertainty in buying patterns from Turkey, according to an executive from ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc.

"It’s amazing to me that a major influence in determining scrap supply in North America is from a country that’s less than a tenth of the geographical size of the U.S. and a quarter of the population," Michael Kennedy, manager of purchasing and logistics at the Hamilton, Ontario, subsidiary of ArcelorMittal SA, told attendees at the American Wire Producers Association’s Government Affairs Conference in Washington.
