Still no deal between union, Big Three

CHICAGO — Contract talks between the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union and the Detroit-area Big Three have stalled as a strike deadline approaches Monday night, according to the union.

"To date, little success has been made, with the union and the companies still very far apart on a number of fundamental issues," the CAW said Friday.

Negotiations have intensified, with senior executives from the automakers becoming involved in talks in Toronto, the CAW said. While high-level involvement has been an encouraging sign in the past, the union said the companies remained "steadfast in their determination to force deep concessions."....
