Alcoa seeks Massena project permit

NEW YORK Alcoa Inc. has asked the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for a revised environmental permit that would allow it to push ahead with a $600-million modernization project at Massena, N.Y.
The most significant part of the modernization project is the construction of a new potline at its Massena East facility that would have an annual capacity of 144,000 tonnes, a spokeswoman for the Pittsburgh-based aluminum producer told AMM. Massena Easts existing Soderberg technology will be replaced with the more-modern pre-bake....
