LONDON Tin market participants convened by the Dutch government have announced plans to begin a new conflict-free tin sourcing program in the South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The meeting took place this week during the Global e-Sustainability and Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition conflict-free minerals workshop.
The Conflict-Free Tin Initiative aims to introduce a strictly controlled, conflict-free supply chain outside the control of armed groups in the DRC. Armed groups in the eastern part of the country control or tax the minerals trade in order to bring in revenue. ....
