Stainless steel distributors await demand

NEW YORK — Stainless steel distributors hope that rising October surcharges will lead to increased demand, as buying has failed to grow as much as expected after the typically slow summer.

"Things haven’t really jumped here," a Midwest distributor source said. "But if people have been holding off, it’s pretty clear that we’ve bottomed out on prices."

However, he added that he would continue to be very cautious with inventory. "I’m not really confident that I’m going to get consistent demand."....
