DOD closes comment period on armor plate

NEW YORK — The U.S. Department of Defense closed its comment period Monday on a proposal to redefine "produced" when procuring specialty metals, with at least one steel interest citing the importance of the change.

Under the amended Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, "produced" would eliminate the phrase "quenching and tempering" for armor steel plate, as well as expand the definition to any specialty metal that could be formed by the technology (amm.com, July 24). ....
