Silicon prices steady as 2013 talks begin

NEW YORK Sluggish activity in the silicon market has kept spot prices firm as next years contract discussions kick off.
"We havent done a whole lot of activity. A truckload here, a truckload there. ... There hasnt been a change (in prices)," one supplier told AMM.
"We have some longer-term contracts already in place (and) were still talking and negotiating for next year. Nothing is settled at this point," according to a second supplier.
Silicon prices slipped to a 26-month low of $1.25 to $1.30 per pound in July, largely due to weaker demand in Europe and oversupply from domestic and international producers. ....
