CHICAGO — Logistics trump labor costs when it comes to the challenges of competing in a global tube market from a U.S. base of operations, according to the president of Handy & Harman - MTF Inc. USA.
Handy & Harman’s labor costs for tubing amount to about 12 cents on the dollar, John Coates said at AMM’s 26th annual Stainless and Its Alloys Conference in Chicago. For small-diameter material, the labor content is even lower, "so we can put it in little boxes and ship it all over the world," he said.....
