Glencore, Evraz, Outokumpu thought likely Mechel buyers

MOSCOW — Outokumpu Oyj, Glencore International Plc and Evraz Holding have been named as the most likely potential candidates to buy the assets being sold by Russian steel and coal group Mechel OAO.

Mechel is selling a range of its production assets in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States in order to slash debt and cut operational losses.

Among the assets to be sold are Mechel’s five mills in Romania; a billet-producing mill in Ukraine; its Voskhod chrome deposit and mining plant in Kazakhstan; its Tikhvin Ferroalloy Plant and Southern Urals Nickel Plant OAO in Russia; and the company’s global distribution network, Mechel Service Global BV, excluding the network’s domestic unit.....
