Stagnation in plate mart said likely to persist

NEW YORK — The U.S. steel plate market has all but ground to a halt, market sources said, with few foreseeing a pickup in demand heading into the fourth quarter.

"At least for the next few weeks, there will be no improvement at all," one mill source told AMM. "Unless you have a real need to buy now, people are holding off."

The average price for cut-to-length plate failed to budge from $38 per hundredweight ($760 per ton) f.o.b. Midwest mill this past week, largely due to very limited activity, sources said.....
