Glencore pulls out of pursuit for Portovesme

NEW YORK — Glencore International Plc has removed itself from the running for Alcoa Inc.’s Portovesme smelter in Italy, a source familiar with the negotiations told AMM.

The Swiss commodities trading house showed interest in Alcoa’s 150,000-tonne-per-year smelter on the Italian island of Sardinia in January (amm.com, Jan. 24), and officials met in August to discuss the viability of the operation (amm.com, Aug. 31).....
