Slurry line sabotage spurs Essar Steel to buy spot coil

MUMBAI, India Essar Steel Ltd., one of Indias largest flat steel producers, will buy hot-rolled coil on the open market following disruption to its upstream raw material operations.
The coil, to be bought domestically and via imports, will be used to feed its cold-rolling and galvanizing lines.
The companys slurry pipeline, which runs from eastern to southern India, was damaged by environmental protestors. As a result, supplies of pellets to its steel plant have been disrupted, thus reducing its hot-rolled coil output by around 50 percent. The company is unable to repair the damage because of continuing security concerns.....
