Auto demand for rare earths likely to boom: Quest chief

NEW YORK — Rare earth metals are likely to see a major boost in demand as a result of increasing applications in the automotive sector, according to Quest Rare Minerals Ltd.’s top executive.

"Every motor you can think of—windshield washer, power window operator, motors that open up your trunk—those are all inputs of rare earths. Now, consumers expect these gadgets and those luxuries that are standard in vehicles as consumers expect them as commonplace," Peter Cashin, president and chief executive officer of the Montreal-based rare earths exploration company, told AMM.....
