NEW YORK — Ormet Corp. might ramp up two potlines next year at its 270,000-tonne-per-year Hannibal, Ohio, smelter if aluminum prices on the London Metal Exchange continue to rise, the company’s top executive said.
Ormet idled two of its six potlines at the smelter over the summer, citing weak LME prices and high energy costs (amm.com, Aug. 27). But the Hannibal-based company is now considering restarting them, provided aluminum prices continue their upward swing.
"We expect we would be increasing capacity depending on metal prices," Ormet chief executive officer Mike Tanchuk told AMM.....
