Alcoa prepared in case ABI contract talks fail

NEW YORK — Alcoa Inc. is only offering contingent billet supply agreements to customers of its Aluminerie de Bécancour Inc. (ABI) smelter for 2013 as part of a precautionary measure in case labor contract talks at the Bécancour, Quebec, facility fail, sources told AMM.
This means that the contracts will be null and void if the United Steelworkers union does not reach a deal with the Pittsburgh-based aluminum producer by the Nov. 22 deadline, sources said.
Alcoa and the USW have met nearly 10 times since Sept. 11 to try to hash out a new agreement, which expires Nov. 22, a representative for USW Métallos in Quebec told AMM, adding that so far no resolution is in sight.....
