NEW YORK — Copper scrap market participants expect a difficult fourth quarter as orders continue to dwindle.

"It’s going to be a tough rest of the year. There seems to be not much demand from China, and businesses here—whether it’s due to housing or whatever—are down, too," one trader told AMM.

Spreads on brass mills’ No. 1 copper scrap in the United States widened to 9 to 11 cents per pound Thursday, leaving prices at $3.65. Meanwhile, brass ingot makers’ No. 1 scrap widened to a spread of 11 to 13 cents per pound, reaching $3.62 to $3.64.....
