Hydro, Sapa set downstream assets merger

LONDON — Norsk Hydro ASA and Orkla ASA, owner of Sapa Group, have agreed to combine all of their aluminum profiles, building systems and tubing businesses into a 50-50 joint venture, the companies announced Monday.

The new company—to be named Sapa—will comprise the profiles, building systems and extruded and welded tube units of Orkla’s wholly owned Sapa and all of Hydro’s extruded products businesses. It will have "leading positions in Europe and North America, and strong footholds in emerging markets, including Brazil, Argentina, China, India and Vietnam,"....
