US steel exports jump 8.1% in August

NEW YORK — U.S. steel mill product exports jumped 8.1 percent in August from the previous month on the back of higher shipments to Canada and Mexico.
Carbon steel exports totaled more than 1.06 million tonnes, up from 983,734 tonnes in July, according to the Commerce Department’s Import Administration.
"The rise in steel exports in August was primarily due to improved shipments to our Nafta (North American Free Trade Agreement) partners in what appears to have been a response to the short-lived uptick in the market at the end of the summer," American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) president David Phelps said in a statement.
