Mexican auto view upbeat despite mart’s ‘lost decade’

MEXICO CITY — The short-term outlook for Mexico’s automotive industry is positive, but the industry experienced "a lost decade" because domestic sales stalled from 2001 to 2011, according to the head of the country’s auto industry association.

"In 2011, 900,000 units were sold in Mexico," Amia president Eduardo Solís said recently at the second annual Mexican Iron and Steel Conference in Cancun. "We are not only at pre-crisis levels, but at levels of 10 years ago." ....
