Xstrata’s 3d-quarter copper output down

SINGAPORE Xstrata Plcs mined copper production fell 16 percent year on year in the third quarter despite rising 2 percent from the second quarter, the company said Wednesday.
The Zug, Switzerland-based diversified miner reported total mined copper output of 187,800 tonnes in the third quarter.
Xstratas share of copper in concentrate production at Perus Antamina Mine increased 32 percent year on year to 41,700 tonnes as a result of better mill throughput and slightly improved grades and recoveries.
But this gain was more than offset by lower production at Xstratas Ernest Henry operation in Australia, which continues to transition to an underground mine following the completion of larger-scale open-pit mining operations in 2011. ....
