Turkey poised to carry copper demand

LONDON — Turkey and the Middle East will be key areas of demand going forward, Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. senior vice president of sales and marketing Javier Targhetta told AMM.

"I bet on this part of the world, especially Turkey," said Targhetta, who is also president of Freeport’s Spanish smelting operation, Atlantic Copper SA.

Atlantic Copper is now exporting about 50 percent of its product to such countries as Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia due to weak demand in Europe, he said.....
