SBQ market looks flat through end of '12: SDI

NEW YORK — Demand for special bar quality (SBQ) products has continued to taper off, even as steelmakers look to raise prices on other products, Steel Dynamics Inc. executives said Thursday.

"Exuberant" growth expectations for 2012 have fallen short as the company predicts demand for SBQ products will be stable at best heading into the fourth quarter, president and chief executive officer Mark Millett said during a conference call with investors following the release of the company’s third-quarter results.

"I do think, hopefully, our volumes should be somewhat stable quarter over quarter, maybe down just a little but nothing material," Millett said.....
