Carbon plate tags sink on stagnant order entry

NEW YORK — U.S. plate prices continued their slide this past week as a persistent lack of demand put pressure on mills to sell at lower levels.
"There is no uptick in demand at all," one mill source told AMM. "It has further softened, and (for) anybody who wants to buy small quantities, it’s available at will—either imports or from service centers."
The average price of cut-to-length carbon steel plate slid to $36 per hundredweight ($720 per ton) f.o.b. Midwest mill from $36.75 per cwt ($735 per ton) previously, and both service center and mill sources said there was nothing to stop prices from sliding further amid depressed demand and a readily available supply of both domestic and imported material.....
