Asian aluminum premiums steady amid weak demand

SINGAPORE — Aluminum premiums in Asia have held steady in recent days, with few deals concluded as market participants look toward final negotiations for next year’s contracts.

In the third quarter, Japanese spot premiums rose to $250 per tonne, much higher than the major Japanese port (MJP) premiums settled for the third quarter at $200 to $210 per tonne.

In the fourth quarter thus far, spot MJP premiums have been about $250 to $255 per tonne, close to the fourth-quarter premiums settled at $253 to $255 per tonne. ....
