Lean stocks not ‘trendy’: Goncalves

CHICAGO Service centers that tout their ability to carry lean inventory levels are doing themselves a competitive disservice, according to Metals USA Holdings Corp.s top executive.
Since the downturn, many distributors seem to think its "trendy" to carry less-than-sufficient inventory, but chairman, president and chief executive officer Lourenco Goncalves said that attitude is costing those companies business.
In fact, his company has grown market share for three years in large part "because we have inventory while others are out of stock," he said.....
