Stainless steel outlook unclear: ATI executive

NEW YORK — Forecasting in the stainless market is growing increasingly difficult, according to the top executive of Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI), citing a lack of visibility.

"When you look at some of the short-cycle business, lead times for stainless steel sheet and plate today are very, very short," ATI chairman, president and chief executive officer Richard Harshman said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, pegging lead times for commodity items at only about two weeks.....
