CHICAGO Executives at Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. think unfairly traded imports are disruptive to the domestic steel scene, primarily because their below-market pricing curtails the profitability of domestic product.
President and chief operating officer Gregg Mollins selected carbon steel plate and energy tubular products as two examples.
"The amount of plate that has come into this county this year is appalling. Korea is flooding the market. Japan has been in when it hadnt been here in the past. Plate pricing is down $250 a ton since March. Thats ... because cheap imported plate is coming into the market," Mollins said.....
