LAS VEGAS — Consolidation in some areas of the steel service center industry is likely to continue, industry executives said during a panel at the Association of Steel Distributors’ fall meeting Friday in Las Vegas.
Though many members of the business community are being cautious in the uncertain economic climate, consolidation is set to continue, said Russ Delaney, president of the flat-rolled group for Kloeckner Metals USA.
"I think it’s going to accelerate," Delaney said during the panel. "A lot of people—ourselves included—are cautious now because of the uncertainty in the market.
"People who will have difficulty in the future are the midsized companies," Delaney noted. "I think the smaller companies have a niche we can’t fill."....
