NEW YORK The U.S.-Panama free-trade agreement set to go into effect Wednesday will help domestic steelmakers gain access to a new market, sources say.
"Panama has been a pretty solid consistent market in regard for steel exports," David Phelps, president of the American Institute for International Steel, told AMM. "Its smallnot a big country and not a big export destinationbut the elimination of the duties on steel imported into Panama will clearly have a beneficial effect."....
