Aluminum distributors feel impact of Sandy

NEW YORK — Aluminum service centers are still feeling the impact from Hurricane Sandy as many are forced to delay or reroute trucks heading to East Coast customers.
"It's definitely had an impact. We held up one truck that was going to western Pennsylvania and Ohio for two days. We also had two trucks in Maryland (rerouted) and sent back down South. We'll hang onto (the metal) for a couple of days and send it back to the customers once they have power," William Portnoy, president of Gaston, S.C.-based Charleston Aluminum LLC, told AMM late Wednesday.
"We've definitely had some impact with shipments. Everything is closed in the Northeast. We've probably lost one or two shipping days," a source at a second service center said. "Trucks that were loaded on Friday to be delivered Monday (in the Northeast) are sitting tight."....
