CHICAGO — Employment at U.S. metal producers held steady in October, with 406,400 people working in the industry (not seasonally adjusted), according to the latest jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The metal fabrication sector saw a loss of 1,500 jobs, down 0.1 percent from September, while the manufacturing sector as a whole saw a decline of 1,600 jobs, also down 0.1 percent. Manufacturing employment has shown little change since April.....
