AK Steel, Nucor raise flat-rolled prices $50/ton

NEW YORK — Domestic steel mills have kick-started a second fourth-quarter price increase on flat-rolled products at a time when scrap input costs look poised to rise.

West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. led the move, announcing late Monday that it was increasing all spot market base prices for carbon flat-rolled steel by $50 per ton, effective immediately for new orders.

The move came less than three weeks after the company, along with other producers, raised prices $40 per ton in an effort to halt a slide in flat-rolled tags (amm.com, Oct. 17).....
