CHICAGO — Edgen Group Inc.’s profits surged in the third quarter as its energy and infrastructure group, as well as its oil country tubular goods (OCTG) segment, reported stronger results.

The Baton Rouge, La.-based distributor of steel pipe, valves, plate and other products for the energy and industrial markets reported net income of $10.4 million in the third quarter of 2012, a more than fourfold gain compared with earnings of $2.4 million in the....
